I Have Become One Of Them....

A gym geek. I would never have thought that could happen to me. Today though I was there and walking on the treadmill and got into one of those kind of exercise induced euphoric states. Then I proceeded to hit the lat pull down bar, and what I think of as the hard ass machine. Not that it is hard to do, but it is supposed to make my ass hard. I also think of it as the horse kick machine. Somehow they have developed this instrument of torture that allows a person to essentially lift weights with their ass muscles. My gluteus minimus is so happy....it hopes to kick the shit out of those neighboring gluteus maximus muscles any day now...... Here is a link to the song I was listening to when the exercise induced euphoria hit....Sorry if you get a commercial for the start...hang in there...and if you need a new work out song for your I-pod...think about it....it can be trance inducing....

Plus it is a kinda hot video....I'm not sure that I will ever think of Little Red Riding Hood or a red teddie in the same way....YOWZA....here is your Big Bad Wolf....

What Goes Around....

Over my time of reading other people's blogs--mostly lesbians I might add--I have read about a few people whom are giving up their house.
Alas, that fate is about to happen to me.
It is a long story that involves buying a house at the peak of market prices, of getting transferred to a new job many miles away when gas cost over $4.00 per gallon at times, and greedy banks who raised the interest rates on credit cards which I had never fallen behind on paying prior to their decision to put the bricks to me.

There is also the little issue of getting a very favorable home inspection which has since become (within five years of purchase) a leaking roof that appears to need complete replacement---wood and everything....

So it is tempting to have a little pity party for myself, however, I recently found a family history that my Dad had written sometime in the early 2000s and it gave me a new perspective on the issue.
I found this little family history as I am busy packing up things in anticipation of moving out of my house.

I stopped feeling quite so much pity for myself because I read the following information about my Paternal Grandparents.

My Dad was born on March 12, 1934. He wrote that he had the impression that the Depression that started in 1929 was very hard on his parents who were operating a small farm.
These are my Dad's recollections: "I know that my Dad (this refers to this blog writers Grandfather) was only able to work part time as a photographer. The Depression also made making money from the farm difficult. For example, I remember my parents bemoaning the fact that they were selling strawberries for five cents a quart while it cost them two cents a quart to have the berries picked. My Mother started selling Fuller brushes door to door to supplement the family income. I think that at times she provided the majority of the family income. During the 1930s the Smith household included my mother, father and myself as well as my father's mother Nora who lived with us. (Blog author note:I recall my Dad talking about sharing a room with this woman and how she seemed to act crazy, but had what we now recognize as dementia..likely Alzheimer's disease. My Dad was terrified by her behavior as she would be awake at night acting out when my Dad was a very young boy).

Continuing with Dad's recollection:
"There was also a man who helped with the farming and a series of foster teenage girls from the county orphanage who helped with the housework and took care of me while my Mother worked.
As WWII approached my father sold the farm in 1940 and purchased an old chicken hatchery in Springfield (OH) which he planned to use both for a photographic studio and residence. He took this action because he was afraid that he couldn't get gasoline to drive about to do his photographic work. Unfortunately, he couldn't get much photographic material due to wartime rationing and wound up working as an inspector in a factory making aircraft gun turrets.
After the conclusion of the war he became a photographer for a small company called Springfield Engraving which made engraved commercial printing plates and also provided photography and commerical art work. By the early 1950s the company had ceased operations as new printing presses replaced those which used the engraving plates. He then operated his own commercial photographic business until he retired in 1964."

So my point...and I DID start out with one...but clearly me and Dad are both kind of long worded in getting around to what we want to be known....
is that there are hard times....for everyone at some point it seems.
I can't relate to the farming and selling my own produce, but I can relate to the issues with the rationing of gasoline and what that most likely did to the prices back in those days.

I can definitely relate to my Grandfather choosing to sell his farm and move closer to town to try to keep his photographic business going only to have the war take away not only gasoline, but all of the materials that were needed to take portraits and other types of photographs. The upside was that the war did provide him with a job even though it was not likely what he would have chosen to do for his employment.

So...pity party over...life can be a struggle, but adapting and learning new ways to manage is what it is all about....
There....I think that I have come to my point....I thank you for getting this far along in the story without falling asleep....peace and out, me

P.S. One additional point...have you noticed how easily my Grandfather made moves without worrying about such things as jobs that came with Health Insurance? If you are against Obama's health plan...think for a minute how freeing it could be if we could start our own business and know that we would have some sort of health insurance without having to grovel and take whatever some employer would be willing to give us? So for all those tea bagging a'holes who love the Constitution and our rights and hate Obama....think about that for a damn minute....
No wait, never mind, because if you are a tea baggin' a'hole you probably have a hard time finding 2 brain cells to connect let alone thinking about something that might just do all people some good instead of only your Conservative thinking tea bag lovin' ass....
OK...now point made!!!!
